I first met Amy and Andy back in 2021 when I photographed their wedding reception. They actually got married in 2020, but they were one of the lucky Covid couples that had to reschedule the celebration. It was worth the wait though, their Rookery Wedding (see the photos here) was simply stunning and such a fun party for everyone who waited so patiently to celebrate safely. When their names popped up in my inbox again, this time with news that their first baby was on the way, I couldn’t have been more excited! The new arrival was due to make his grand entrance just in time for the holidays

All of my newborn sessions take place in the client’s home and Amy and Andy’s session was a perfect example of why. Those early weeks with a newborn are all about adjusting, whether it’s your first baby or you’re adding a new little one to the mix, photographing at home keeps things simple and comfortable. It also allows families to include meaningful spaces like their living room, bedroom, and newly finished nursery. Just a few days before Christmas, I joined them at home to photograph Nathan during his first weeks and their first holiday season as a family of three.

In-home newborn sessions move at a relaxed pace and are completely baby-led. If Nathan needed to eat, we paused for a feeding. If a diaper change was needed, we took a break. We even did an outfit change, but I always love including a few photos in a simple white onesie since that’s such a true reflection of newborn life. We started the session with a handful of posed photos for the Christmas card, but the rest of the session focused on documenting this new family settling into life together in their home.

This lifestyle newborn session was all about keeping things natural and low pressure while capturing meaningful moments from this season. Congratulations again, Amy and Andy! It was such an honor to photograph this next chapter for your family.
