There are two things I took away from Whitney & Barry’s wedding. 1) they are ridiculously in love and 2) they know how to throw a party.

Whitney & Barry were married on the 4th of July this year at the Chevy Chase Country Club in Wheeling. I loved everything about this wedding. From all the perfectly handmade details done by Whitney, the lush summer florals, gold accents everywhere and last but not least their awesome family and friends. Even though they were married on the most American holiday of them all, Barry’s Scottish heritage played a big part in the wedding. He and his groomsmen (and quite a few guests) were in kilts. They even taught (well, attempted to teach) the traditional Scottish dances. Judging by the packed dance floor, a fantastic time was had by all.

I’d also like to thank my friend Maria of Maria Harte Photography for being an amazingly awesome second shooter that day.

We started the day in Whitney’s room where she was just finishing getting ready.

Meanwhile, the guys were just finishing up downstairs.

We had a little time before the ceremony to get a few photos of the bridesmaids and the groomsmen.

Then it was off to the ceremony.

They wrote their own vows. Some of the best I ever heard, not many dry eyes out there.

Even though there were kilts and Scottish music, plenty of guests were still in the American Spirit.

I very rarely remember what song was being played when I’m editing through pictures. However this was definitely Africa by Toto.

Last but not least, no 4th of July wedding would be complete without a sparkler sendoff.

From the Bride & Groom

Favorite/Most Memorable Moment of the day?

W: The ceremony and hearing the vows Barry had written to me. The next best was the party and dancing!!!

B: Watching Whitney walk down the aisle to me, without a doubt my favorite.

W: When Barry put my ring on but only half way and I had to put it on the rest of the way.

B: The best man speech and dancing to the Scottish music. It was hilarious to see the Americans trying.

Fave Song(s) you danced to at the reception?

Danced to Spice Girls – Wannabe with my girlfriends, Toto – Africa and The Proclaimers – I would walk 500 miles

Have fun while doing it. The less you stress and the more easy going you are the more fun you’ll have. We decided to skip our bouquet and garter toss because everyone was having so much fun dancing, we didn’t want to stop the party! Also, I know everyone wants to do a first look now, but I can honestly say nothing will be as special as seeing each other at the altar for the fist time. Enjoy yourselves the day goes by SO fast!

Headed to Scotland for our second wedding and hopefully taking a few days in Paris or Ireland while we are across the pond.

Getting to introduce each others as husband and wife. It’s so natural!

Whitney & Barry, thank you so much for having us there to photograph your special day! Your wedding was beyond amazing, we had an absolute blast!! Wishing you both many, many years of love & happiness! Congratulations! 🙂
